Head Brewer

Nathan Eggebrecht

How did you get your start in brewing?
I started my brewing career as a homebrewer, brewing in my garage. After brewing my first batch I became addicted and started a beer club where friends and family could join me in brewing every Saturday. During this time, I also joined the Rimrock Brewers Guild in Billings where I was living. Shortly after that I jumped on the chance to earn a certificate in Craft Brewing and Fermentation from MSU Billings, which ultimately led me to my current position as head brewer at Crazy Peak.
What’s your favorite part of the job?
The people! In my short career as a brewer, I’ve already met so many amazing people that make our industry unique and fun to work in. The sense of camaraderie and collaboration in this industry is amazing and unlike any other industry.
What’s your favorite style of beer to brew?
To be honest, I don’t have a favorite. Any style I haven’t brewed yet though is always fun and exciting. I enjoy looking into the history of the style of beer I’m going to brew and the challenge of brewing something new. Sour beers are particularly fun to brew because you get to work with microbes besides your traditional brewers yeast.
Favorite beer?
My taste in beer is always evolving and changes with the season. I started my journey into craft beer as a huge hophead. Over time, I’ve learned to appreciate all the styles of beer and enjoy drinking everything from Stouts to Saisons. Currently, I’m fascinated with sours and can’t get enough of them. To answer the question directly though, I would have to say Stone IPA… it is the beer that started it all for me.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Spending time with my family, being outdoors, traveling, playing and seeing music, and of course drinking amazing beer.
Random fact about you?

My favorite band is the String Cheese Incident. I have seen them perform over 150 times in 11 states and internationally in Mexico.

What made you want to break into the Taproom & Brewery scene?
Started going to Bozo Brewing Co while attending college in Bozeman. Always hated IPAs, but once I started into the brewery seen I was hooked. From there I always looked for Breweries everywhere I went. My pallet began to go and develop. My lovely wife and my mom went out and bought me my first home brew kit for Christmas. I began brewing during the winter/slow months of my construction work. Wanted to bring a family friendly business to the town of Big Timber.
What’s the best part of the job?

Getting to meet and talk with so many people in the industry and people coming to the taproom to talk about beer! Also I get to be lead taster to Nathan and all his tasty beers!
